Havana VI - Tatuaje Victorias​

I was in the mood for something NC after lunch, and the red band on the Tatuaje Victorias caught my attention. I tried some of the Havana VI a while back and recall them having very loose draws that made for a powerful, overwhelming smoke. I was hoping for a different experience today, and definitely got one.

The wrapper was dark brown, coarse, and very firm. I punched the pigtail cap and pre-draw was a bit on the tight side. I fired it up and the tight draw turned out to be perfect. Tastes of leather, cocoa, hints of vanilla bean with perfect black pepper spice. It had a razor sharp burn with solid ash. Once it got towards the last third, the tobacco started to loosen and the draw opened. By that time I was ready to put it down anyway. I really liked this smoke!

Trinidad Coloniales​

Got this in a MAWPIF on another board and wasn’t informed of the age. I’ve not had many Trinis, however have enjoyed the ones I have had. This was a well-constructed cigar with one vein running down one side. It was very light in the hand and pre-draw was loose. Thinking it was under filled. Loads of smoke came from the torched foot when lit. It was a light medium to mild smoke with taste of sweet fruit and notes of cedar. I could taste cinnamon as well. Okay, not fruit but floral. Flowers definitely popped into my head while smoking this. Delicious!

Bolivar Tubos No. 2​

I have no idea the date on this cigar as it was sent as a replacement for a short-shipped box. I noticed lots of oils on the smooth wrapper. Cap punched, pre-draw was perfect with rich tobacco tastes. I lit the cigar and got a sweet caramel with coffee notes, smooth and creamy smoke with a fine hint of spiciness. It had a medium strength that I always find perfect for my taste. Perfect burn all the way through. I’d say from the taste, this was still a bit on the young side.

I enjoyed your reviews, especially the Boli #2. A friend gave me one a couple of months ago and my impressions were very similar to yours. The only difference is that mine had pretty firm draw. I have 1 more, but I'm gonna let it sit in the humi awhile.
 
Tatuaje Unicos​

Went outside to watch the wife and baby girl playing and took a Tatuaje Unicos with me. This was my first brown label Tatuaje and was looking forward to giving it a try. The torpedo looked good with a coarse dark brown wrapper and was very firm when squeezed. I clipped the head at an angle and draw was perfect with a distinct cedar taste. I lit the foot and first draw was great with strong taste of cedar and leather. Some black pepper spice was present, but not overbearing in the least. I few more draws, and I started getting a bitter taste. I began to think maybe I'm coming down with a cold or something and my taste buds were off. The bitterness increased and became downright nasty. I did still get tastes of leather, some vanilla, and the initial cedar. However, there was just this really bitterness about it. I clipped the head a little more thinking maybe the draw just wasn't open enough, however it didn't help. A really strong dirt taste was coming through, not a good rich dirt taste, but dirty dirty taste mixed with the bitterness. I kept going with it hoping that it would go away, but it didn't. Towards the end I swear it had a taste close to the smell of paint thinner.

I was very disappointed in this smoke. I unfortunately don't have any other brown labels in the humi to try to see if this was just a bad one. Well, I believe I do have a Cojonu 2003. We shall see...

I also think the Trini Coloniales is a great stick. I'm going to have to get some more this fall....

Well, if you are, I guess I'll have to hate you just to fit in. :rolleyes: I love the review of the Trini, my sentiments exactly on that cigar. The 2006 Reyes is a pure floral delight. Fantastic cigar at $6 a pop. Same price as a Guapo Jr, or by MN prices, $2 cheaper than a R&J Bully.
 
Thanks for the great reviews! I've got both a Bolivar Tubos #2 and a Trinidad Coloniales in my humidor waiting to be smoked. I think I might have to do so pretty soon.

I'm not a fan of the brown label Tats but I've never had one turn out like your experience. It was probably a bad stick.

I love the Havana VI in that size...the Aristas. If you haven't tried that one I suggest you do so. :thumbs:
