I am tired of spyware, I am tired of Microsoft. My wife has a bad spyware/virus something or other on hger laptop and I have given up trying to remove it and have decided to reformat it.

Just downloaded Firefox for my office desktop. Haven't had the guts to look at their newest e-mail program as I didn't like their older versions last I looked a few years back.

But so far I like Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla rocks. I'll never go back. Firefox was too buggy for me but was very fast. For now I'll stick with Mo.

I seem to remember Mozilla was infiltrated a few weeks ago. I think I saw it on CF.

Bottom line....if you're connected to the internet, you're vulnerable! :D

Yes, that's true -- but some programs are worse than others. Microsoft Internet Explorer is horrible. You might as well surf the net with a loaded gun to your head.

Tally me for that. With Spybot and Ad-aware I've not had anything I couldn't fix.

Use them but it will not work on DSO expert spyware. Just finished a reformate because of it.

On the lavasoft (ad-aware) help forum someone gave instructions on a custom setup for ad-aware that picked up alot that the original scan did not. I will try to find you the link.

I use Firebird almost exclusively, except for those sites that require IE (bastids!).

Installed Mozilla 1.5 yesterday out of curiosity, and it CRAWLS compared with Firebird.

Edit: Spoke too soon, guess it had to get used to being on my system; pages now load just as fast as Firebird did.

Waiting for the next CD from Mozilla with Firefox on it, also with Mo 1.7 to see if they've speeded it up.

For you Eudora fans, I installed 6.1.2 yesterday and it corrupted all my filters! :(

Wise words: If it ain't broke, don't fix it!! :( :( :(

Edit #2: I LOVE Thunderbird's adaptive filtering!! If junk gets through to your inbox, just click on the junk button in the toolbar and you never see it again (or anything like it.) Now if they could just figure out how to fire back a heat-seeker...... :sign:

I love  Eudora  !!! I have used it forever. I love how easy it is to use, and back up and restore and just about every thing about it. Easy to back up and move and restore isn't quite the plus it used to be before XP, (I REALLY hate to admit it but xp does seem to crash and burn and die and puke its own guts out much less then previous versions) but I still use it and am very happy with it.

I just installed Firebird and so far so good. I think it's going to work out great. Seems fast and everythings looking like it should so far. I need to get used to tabing more I guess now that I can. I've been using IE since Netscape bit the dust. That was a sad day indeed when I sucomed (or a word like that) to the dark side finally. IE was just getting worse and worse for slowness and pain in the rear issues. One of the updates for example stopped letting me swipe pics off the net as anything but gifs and the pic name was unknown. What a pain to have to name anything you swipe and have to convert it back to JPG if thats what you need. Not sure why it started doing this but I just ditched it and life is good again.

On a side note of sorts. I installed the XP service pack 2 on Friday. Lots of pain in the rear stuff for people allready using a firewall and such. I didn't select the windows firewall or automatic updates. Now I'm sure it's just a coincidence and all....... but just about like two hours after installing the service pack and declining so much of micrsofts "help" like firewall and automatic updates............ my power supply died right after I left the house. I'm sure it's just a coincidense, I'm sure it has nothing to do with that big evil empire called Microsoft.................. But it did die (or was it assisinated?) the first moment it could after installing the big new fancy service pack and then declining some microsoft assistance.......................... Yea, oh sure just a coincidense all right!!!!!

I first changed from IE to Mozilla Firebird, and now I'm using Firefox. Kickass browser. I like the tabs more than separate windows. I also use the E-mail program, Thunderbird. I'd never change back (except when I'm doing Windows Update, sigh).

Hope this helps
I am still working with dell on my Inspirion problem. (The Search window pops up on its own).

I have reformated three times and they still say it is a virus or spyware instead of hardware. The reformats should have taken care of the spyware so I guess it is a Virus if anything software related.

We are redoing the bios this morning in case a virus wrote to it.

Firefox roooooocks. Great plugins too. Any time you get those stupid registration pages, use bugmenot. Any time you get a page that doesn't play well with firefox use the open in IE plugin. All kinds of good stuff. So fast, so shiny!

One "bug" I have discovered is that when you click on the links in the e-mails notifying you of thread post at CP the "Locate Link Browser" window comes besides the FireFox program.

I started using is some time ago (see here , actually I had been using it for while before starting that thread), and have been using exclusively since - well, expect when (as psyktek said) a site requires IE. I think it is SO much better than IE.

I use Opera, It is sweeeeeeeeeet! :love: The only problem I have had is when trying to print things from the USPS site, can't get it to work :( {but I am sure one of you computer geeks :p can tell me how to fix that}

Also Ad-Aware has a new version of there software called "Ad-Aware SE personal" that is pretty much set up already for deep scanning {as the instructions in gunpowder's post states} go to there site and download!!

I have been using firefox for a little while now and I really like it a lot. I have a couple questions though for those with more experience with it then I.

First, someone mentioned a plugin for opening pages in IE that aren't playing well with Firefox. I went looking for that plugin but didn't find it. Does anyone have the name of that plugin??

Also, I was looking through the list of themes and was a little disapointed there wasn't more good ones to choose from. I'm using Noia 2.0 Extreme and I really like it, but is anyone using something else that they like and I may have missed?

Can't help you but while questions are being asked. I downloaded Thunderbirtd but can't really use it.

Do they have a calander program like outlook?

I use Outlook and sync to my palm for scheduling.
