Aberlour 15 y/o Double cask matured only available in a sizeable 1 litre bottle. Cost as seen online is right around $89.00. No camera handy, so will have to borrow one from the distillery.
Aged in a mix of Bourbon hogsheads and Sherry butts for 14 years, the casks are then mixed or vatted together and refilled into a new sherry cask to achieve a unique finish. This is the perfect harmony of the Distillers Art and Blenders Skill. This process gives more depth of character and added complexity to the whisky.
The Aberlour 15YO Double Cask Matured is presented in an elegant brown carton and sold only in 1 litre bottle size.
The color in the bottle is a nice amber and only slightly looses it's color in the glass.
I'm a big fan of the 15 Sherry version and was looking forward to this one for the last week or so. Initialy, the dram was slightly sweet and far less robust than the 15 sherry version. The dbl cask is a smooth dram that really doesn't need much more than an ice cube and a few minutes of sitting to open up. Sipping gives you a taste of fruit, malt and a little wood, but the finish is closer to the dry side. I was hoping that the finish would have been a little 'cleaner' but was not disappointed at all.
I would give it a B+
