Is it any wonder USPS is having problems?

On Wednesday, Feb 11, I mailed off two packages when I left the office. Both were in the VHS Priority box, both landed in the mailbox before the 5pm pick up (which actually gets there closer to 5:15). Both packages had computerized labels printed up from USPS's shipping assistant program. Tracking the DC# showed the normal course of events for that first day:

Electronic Shipping Info Received, February 11, 2009
Processed, February 12, 2009, 12:48 am, BETHPAGE, NY 11714

The one package then took the direct route to middle America, and was delivered on Saturday, the 14th. The other package, which is headed to Georgia, took a somewhat more circuitous route:

Processed, February 13, 2009, 4:05 pm, SANTA CLARITA, CA 91383

Ummm... OK... See, I could understand if I hand-wrote the label, and maybe they misread CA instead of GA. I also understand that it's not always possible for 100% direct route to be taken, with main sorting hubs and all. But a stop in Cali seemed kind of strange. That being said, I am impressed that it took only a day and a half to get there.

Damn... didn't get back to the east coast until the crack of dawn Sunday. And with the holiday today, it won't be delivered until (hopefully) Tuesday. That is, unless it wants to see some of the southwest.

Maybe instead of cutting back to 5 day a week delivery, maybe figure out a better route from NY to Georgia without having to stop in California. I hear Hawaii is beautiful this time of year.

Tom, you know who must have run off with it... ;)

You should have seen the cross country tour that 3 boxes of Opus took. By the time it got to me, they probably traveled over 5k miles in state.

This has happened to me also and I can only say I feel that frustration.

I sent a package from Illinois to Texas that ended up in Boston, Ma, and made a stop in New Hampshire. I was rather perplexed.

What I forgot to mention was the original distance was like 700 miles and it took the Post Office 3 weeks to deliver the 3 boxes of Opus. The CP'er that picked them up for me was in freaking out as bad as I was. LOL!!! Nothing like having over $1200 worth of cigars lost in the system.

This situation made me laugh, but I can certainly understand your frustration.

Seems liek they need to overhaul the system and get some experts to clean it up.

Btw- I have a customer that comes in and is a mailcarrier for the USPS, he told me there is little talk that they'll go to a 5 day week. He said he's almost positive it wont happen. (of course that's just 1 guy's opinion).

I never seem to get mail on Saturday though LOL. I get a ton on friday, and almost never get anything on Saturdays.

Every time I go to my local post office, I wait in line for at least 30-40 minutes. The last two times I went, once was right before Christmas, about 10 days or so, and it was a Saturday, ok thats understandable, I was 24th in line. The last time I went it was a month after Christmas, and on a Saturday, and I was over 30th in line. The post office is terrible any more, I think I will just start shipping via FedEx or UPS. My sister works for UPS, so maybe she can hook me up.

I fuggin hate USPS right now. Lost 3 packages and 2 checks were late, but thanks to them putting the date when they cancelled the stamp saved my arse.

Should had seen me when I mailed a Single cigar with a Wii Disk in a Flat Rate box. The lady said she had to weigh the package first and the box I used was for upto 20lbs. She saw the contents and told me she would need to weigh it first. And with only 1 person working the counter during lunch hour. Granted, its a small town but a tree sloth moves faster than these Post Office workers. On top of it, about 20 people in line. Lets just say I wanted to go Postal right there as she wouldn't let me pay for it and then put the contents in it. Then sealing it and handing it to her. I called the Post Office up and chewed some ass.

USPS, a necessary evil  . Just an FYI in case your not aware. The USPS will be phasing out the Priority Mail VHS boxes and replacing them with a Small Flat Rate Box. The cost is approx $4.95 to ship the flat rate box. According to USPS website the two size of VHS boxes will no longer be avialbe once the current supply is gone. So if you like those stock up now.

No cross country trips, but they have been holding my Camachos hostage at the local hub all morning.

"Status: Arrival at Unit

Your item arrived at 8:25 AM on February 16, 2009 in TIFFIN, OH 44883. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later."

Bastards.

I haven't checked those out yet. Off the top of your head, any noticeable differences between the two?

I own a small clothing company and use USPS to ship my shirts, and I have been having ALOT of problems recently with them. Also used to deal with them when I worked for a printing company, horrible, horrible, service.
