On Wednesday, Feb 11, I mailed off two packages when I left the office. Both were in the VHS Priority box, both landed in the mailbox before the 5pm pick up (which actually gets there closer to 5:15). Both packages had computerized labels printed up from USPS's shipping assistant program. Tracking the DC# showed the normal course of events for that first day:

The one package then took the direct route to middle America, and was delivered on Saturday, the 14th. The other package, which is headed to Georgia, took a somewhat more circuitous route:

Ummm... OK... See, I could understand if I hand-wrote the label, and maybe they misread CA instead of GA. I also understand that it's not always possible for 100% direct route to be taken, with main sorting hubs and all. But a stop in Cali seemed kind of strange. That being said, I am impressed that it took only a day and a half to get there.

Damn... didn't get back to the east coast until the crack of dawn Sunday. And with the holiday today, it won't be delivered until (hopefully) Tuesday. That is, unless it wants to see some of the southwest.
Maybe instead of cutting back to 5 day a week delivery, maybe figure out a better route from NY to Georgia without having to stop in California. I hear Hawaii is beautiful this time of year.
