Glendronach 15 yo Sherry Cask, 80 proof, Single Malt Highland Scotch. $42-55 750 ml.
After another wonderful early dinner by my wife of beef in wine sauce I settled in for some TV time with a glass of Glendronach 15 yo scotch. Like MaCallan, this Glendronach is aged in sherry casks for it's entire existence. The difference is that they don't use the same type of sherry casks as MaCallan does. So, while it has the same nose that is as sherried, rich, and fruity as MaCallan it does not have quite as smooth a consistancy. This is a fairly full bodied scotch with a nice roundness of flavor featuring a slightly sweet caramel and sherry burst with a long toasted oaky finish.
Overall a nice alternative to MaCallan with many of the same characteristics but with a slightly rougher edge and up to a 20% savings.
