I credit theEpiphany with my thought here:

What was your favorite Atari or NES game?

I think mine were: NES-
1. Zelda
2. Contra
3. Double Dragon
4. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

NES:

Mike Tyson's Punch Out
Mega Man II
Contra
Bubble Bobble
Mario 2

Never had the Atari 2600. I had the Intellivision, then the Atari 5200. Favorite games for each as follows:

Football
Baseball
Tron Deadly Discs
Snafu
Sub Hunt

Pole Position
Mario Bros.
Kangaroo
Q*bert
Defender

When I first got Nintendo, I played Super Mario Bros for 16 hours straight :p (Or something like that.)
I don't know about favorite but I was the Duck Hunt "Grand Messiah"
Games were so much fun then.

I know it's not NES or Atari, sorry, but my favorite game is for Super Nintendo...Simulator Baseball 1000. I have soooo many childhood memories just from this game! Sorry, I didn't mean to sidetrack the thread. Continue as you were...

Zelda and Contra no contest. That frame in your OP is from Adventures of Link though...

Like Khari, I had the Intellivision (I still have it in the closet)

Snafu
Astrosmash
Baseball (I could play both sides at the same time and go into the 20th inning tied at zero)

Edit: Add Star Strike and Space Hawk to the list.

Good times.

Atari:
River Raid
Pitfall

NES
Super Mario Bros
Kid Icarus
Adventure Island

You do know you had to be six feet away from the television when you shot them ducks, right?
I hear you chipped your TV screen a couple of times with that light gun

Heh Thanks Mike!
games

I actually found myself always playing these games. My favorite CURRENT game is Bioshock hands down. but even with the great graphics I always go back to the old games.

I actually built a Home Theater PC that has complete sets of All Sega/Atari/Nintendo/Playstation games I play it regularly. That and complete sets of MAME roms keep me rooted in my childhood.

We throw parties at our place and always end up playing Apple IIe Oregon Trail. It's a great game if you've had a few.

BUT to answer the question.

Nintendo:
Contra
Double Dragon
Super Mario Bros 2 (Japanese Version)

Atari:
Custer's Revenge (The original Smut and nudity game)
Tron (Any of them)
Adventure

Atari:
Journey (Yes the band had a game)
Jungle Hunt
The Empire Strikes Back

Nintendo:
Castlevania II Simon's Quest
Final Fantasy
Mike Tyson's Punch Out (which I still play regularly)

Like Khari, I had the Intellivision (I still have it in the closet)

Snafu
Astrosmash
Baseball (I could play both sides at the same time and go into the 20th inning tied at zero)

x3. I played Baseball and Tron using both controllers. YER OUT!! I loved that. I was also the master of Bump-N-Jump.

"when the hell did this happen"

edit: fiver to the first person to tell me what movie the quote came from

Damn, this makes me feel old. The Atari had just come out when I was a kid (I had the 2600 and not the 5200) and the NES wasn't around until High School. I remember playing Pong with my Dad when I was 6-7 on the console that had the dials you had to turn.

Pitfall and Centipede were by far my favorites.

Contra! Up-Up-Down-Down-Left-Right-Left-Right-B-A-B-A-Select-Start
Also, Super Mario Bros, #3
