Coffee review

Rod just up and sent me some of his signature CP coffee. He likes me, or he's an idiot - maybe both, I'm not sure. But, I'm sure glad he did. I'm a regular Starbuck's Verona drinker. I've purchased from Mr Jerry in the past, and it was good, but I'm pretty much a boring coffee consumer.

Anyhow, the beans arrived in one of those heavy foil bags, heat sealed, but with one of those valves that keeps the bag from inflating like a balloon. In the Mile High city, that valve does its job, but the side effect is that the odor of rich, expensive coffee escapes the box. Its a damned good thing that the mail carriers here are a moral bunch, or the box might have been shanghaied. Really, it smelled that good!

The beans are very dark and oily. I suppose stuff of this quality should be brewed in a French press, or one of those snooty coffee makers, but mine is just another Black and Decker Mr Coffee knock off. I set mine up the night before, to trigger at 5:30, and I'm up looking for it at 6. It was Monday morning and I'd forgotten about the new coffee. I don't ordinarily take note of the smell coming up the stairs, but I did this day. Mmmmmm! Oh yeah, that's Rod's coffee! Still, I don't pour right off the bat, but grabed my shower. I pour into my travel cup just before heading out. I had a lot on my mind, preparing for the morning's meetings and again, didn't remember that I was demoing the coffee.

WTF is this in my cup? Wow! Its a rich, strong brew, much like my usual Verona. However, the Verona is flat compared to this. I'm not talking about strong, as in slice yourself a cup, but strong as in slap your face flavor, but without the sting. The biggest note is the finish. It stays with you much longer. This is good brew and I definitely recommend you give it a try. I think Rod is on to something here.

Nice review, Bruce! Glade you're enjoying the coffee. Now that it's summer, try it on ice.

I recently ordered a bag of CP coffee and was impressed that it was actually worth the trouble of ordering and waiting for shipment (I admit that one factor in ordering it was to be able to have the CP logo girl sitting on my kitchen countertop...but I digress...) Anyway, the beans themselves are aesthetically pleasing with their shiny darkness and when I ground them, the aroma released was delicious. I use a French Press, not to be trendy but because I like the way it gives you more unadulterated and unfiltered flavor. I purposely grind very fine so that I can get more of the actual bean in my cup. I don't know if a coffee purist would go that route but it works for me.

I couldn't agree more with Bruce's assessment quoted above. It definitely is strong without the sting, and it's probably one of the most flavorful coffees I've enjoyed. No bitterness whatsoever. This is coffee for the dedicated coffee drinker.

I consumed half the pot with breakfast, and then around midmorning drank the rest over ice. Mmmmmmmm.....
