First Annual MD Golf Herf 5/31/08

In an effort promote the Monocacy Cigar Lodge in Frederick, MD (http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=142843), I am pleased to announce the first MCL Herf/Golf Tournament! It will be held on Saturday, May 31st at the Rattlewood Golf Course outside Mt. Airy, MD (http://www.montgomerycountygolf.com/RW_home.html). We have tee times for 8 groups (32 players) at $90 per person. This covers the greens fee, cart, range balls, and a very nice barbecue buffet catered by the award winning Damon’s Restaurant. The first group tees off at 9AM. The buffet will include:
BBQ chicken
Southern pork BBQ with roll
Beef brisket with BBQ sauce and roll
Cole slaw
Baked beans
Garlic mashed potatoes

Depending on how things go with sponsors and other generous benefactors, each player will receive a gift bag with cigars to smoke during the tournament, and whatever other golf/cigar goodies we can come up with. Also, door prizes will be given out during the devouring of the buffet. To keep things moving and fun for all the players regardless of skill level, the tournament will be a “best ball” or “Captain’s Choice” competition. There will be a prize for the “closest to the pin” and “longest drive” contest winners. The players on the three teams with the lowest scores (1st, 2nd, and 3rd places) will win an as yet undetermined prize.

This promises to be a great time, and we hope it will become an annual tradition for many years to come. Darn, that is only 40 mins away too. :( Unfortunately I hopefully have something going on that weekend. Maybe next year I can make it though!!

I am posting again in an effort to keep this near the top of the stack (a bump?), and to ask for help from the CP folks (I thought it would be OK to at least ask). We are seeking sponsors and generous benefactors to help us in putting on this golf herf. To be sure we are on a shoestring budget, but we want to make the tournament as exciting and fun as possible. We would like to give each player a gift bag with 2-3 stogies, and maybe some balls, a cigar cutter, golf tees, ball markers, whatever. Also, there will be door prizes and contest prizes (closest-to-the-pin, longest drive, and 3 lowest team scores).

If you work for, or own a business that would like to sponsor a hole, we will put your company name and contact info on all our promotional materials and Internet postings. We will also put up a sign on the tee to display your business name, description, and contact info. Also, I am asking any members that wish to do so, to donate any cigar of golf stuff, or even something that would make a good gag gift that we can use for the prizes.

What new or like-new golf/stogie stuff do you have lying around that you never use?
Ashtrays, lighters, cigar cutters
Golf balls (new please), tees, ball markers, putters, clubs, pull carts
Shirts, T-shirts, jackets, hats (new please)
Humidors, humidifiers, hygrometers, cigar holders or travel cases
How about that blow-up sex doll you got at your bachelor party (un-used PLEASE!)
And of course stogies, stogies, stogies!!!

Anything would be greatly appreciated. Please remember that the Monocacy Cigar Lodge is a not-for-profit LLC organization. No one makes any money from this tournament or the operation of the club. We’re just a bunch of stogies lovers who want to get together once in a while and enjoy a good smoke and some good company, without the tobacco nazis getting in our faces. Unfortunately, donations are not tax deductible.

I would be happy to send you a bunch of Cigar Caddy Multi-Use Cigar Clips that you can give to each person. You can see them on my site. They were originally designed to be used on a golf cart and work perfectly. I use one every time I play.
Let me know how many you need and where to ship them.

Thank you very much, that’s an extraordinarily generous offer! We will have 32 players in the tournament, and it would be great to give each player a clip, but if that’s more than you intended, anything would be greatly appreciated. I will send you a PM immediately with my contact info.

Last year I bought an identical cigar holder/clip from neptunecigar.com, and with shipping it cost about $18!!! Yours is $5.99. Damn! Their price today is $11.95 (it was $14.95 when I bought it), but it’s still double what you charge. I am going to promote the heck out of your website!

This donation definitely earns you the right to be a “tee sponsor”. We will put up a sign on one of the tee boxes showing your business as the sponsor of that tee, and it will list what you donated and the contact info for your website. Also, your business will be listed on all our fliers and internet promotions. If you have them, please include some business cards that we can put with the sign so people can take one if they want.

Thanks again, this will help to make our tournament more exciting and fun for the players. Let me know if you are ever in the DC area, 'cause I am gonna throw you a monster herf!

Shameless bump. This thing actually looks like it's going to work (this is my first golf tourny)! Generous sponsor like Dave are starting to contribute and players are signing up. I'm psych'ed!! Now if we can just have a little sunshine for the event!!!!! Does anyone know a no-rain dance?
 
If any of the local DC CPers want to do this I will sponsor a CP foursome. I unfortunantly can't make it. I will also be willing to send you some prizes to give away. Maybe I can stop by The Monocacy Cigar Lodge for a smoke and drop off some stuff next week.

I really appreciate the offer of any goodies you can donate! Unfortunately, since we are still giving birth to the MCL, it doesn't have a location yet. For now we get together pretty regularly at the Davidus Cigars store in Urbana, MD (on Rt. 80 just east of I270, next to Foster's Grill (GREAT burgers BTW!)). That's one of the reasons for the tournament, to get people interested and hopefully get some more members. If you like, I can meet you at Davidus to have a smoke (and a burger?), or I can meet you anywhere/time that is convenient for you. Let me know.

Also, we are working to get some media buzz going. We are having a Cigar-BQ tomorrow, Sat. 5/3, in Adamstown, MD (off of Rt. 85 south of Frederick) from 1 to 5. A reporter from the Gazette Newspapers is going to be there to take pictures and write a story about the club. I know it’s short notice, but if you can make it, it promises to be a great time! You can smoke premo stogies and eat great food until you pass out. Send me a PM if you’re interested, and I’ll send you the directions and my contact info.

Come on no CPers in DC play golf? Here is what I am offering. I need 4 CPers to represent the entire board at this tournament. I will pay the entry fee. That means it is FREE :sign:


All I ask is that you need to be a member since April 17. And be in good standing. Post here then PM me and you are in. FREE but I need four. I will not pay for just one, two , or three.

Even though it looks like Dennis has four Cigar Pass players for his team, there are still slots available. Ask yourself when the next herf/golf tournament will come along!!!
