Dear Members,
Just a quick update on CP and our community… As a self-moderated forum, it’s time we all take more of an initiative in keeping our community a fun, friendly and informative place. I believe we’re still the No 1 cigar forum out there, with the most accurate and informative information. We have some of the most knowledge members who share their wealth of information with the community – this is invaluable in my opinion.
It seems some of you guys are treating the forum more like a chat room. Please THINK before you post. This is NOT a chat room. What we’re building is an archive of cigar related information. Sure, we can have fun, but please keep all posts semi-professional. We’re not a small community any longer, therefore, we all need to step up and do a much better job of self-moderating.
Some examples of posts which add zero value to the community are:
- Posting a picture to describe what you’re trying to say. What happens when the link is no longer active for that picture? We now have an empty post. Please do not do this.
- Posting a single emoticon as your entire post. Sometimes this is ok, but most times it’s not. Please use your judgment on this.
- Flaming or name calling. Please do not engage in any negative posts. If you dislike another community, there is absolutely no reason why you need to make it known publicly.
- Please do not place excessive page breaks (line spaces) in your post.
- Cussing… The cussing seems to be increasingly more and more. I’m by no means a prude, however if you’re posting in the forum, please keep the cussing to a minimum. I really don’t care to see the “F” bomb flying around carelessly. Again, this forum is not a chat room, please keep that in mind.
Another thing I’m seeing a lot of lately is the name calling of other forums. I could care less if someone is a member at one of the other cigar forums. No one, and I mean no one, is expected to make CP their only forum. I do not want to see ANYONE bashing another forum ever again. I could care less how the other forums manage their community. CP is the only forum which is self-moderated, and that’s what makes us different. Other forums are moderated, some heavily moderated.
Anyone who bashes another forum or member will be warned once. The second offense will result in a 3 day banning. 3rd offense will result in a permanent ban. This will be strictly enforced.
One last thing… If a troll joins CP, or if someone instigates an argument, DO NOT TAKE IT UPON YOURSELF TO RESOLVE THE SITUATION! Please REPORT the post to me, and I will handle it. If you decide to take it upon yourself and “fight back”, you will receive a warning, then a 3 day ban, than a permanent ban. Again, if you fight back, the outcome will be most unfavorable for you.
I’m currently in the process of creating a full set of rules, which will not only include our rules and policies, but also our banning policy. The community is growing rapidly, and we need to take a more aggressive stance in protecting what we have. That goes for both new and old members. Everyone is on the same playing field. As of right now, everyone has a clean slate. Please do not jeopardize what you have here. Once you lose your membership at CP, there is no restitution.
Thank you for reading… If you have any questions, please PM me.
All the best,
Rod
