In MonkeyK's pass, we did a "Blind Leading the Blind" - meaning, we put something in the pass that we heard was nice, but didn't like - or haven't heard about, but thought it was nice and wanted others to try...

I pulled out a Oliva Master Blend Robusto having heard many talk about what a great smoke it was. It is attention getting because it has a laser enscription on the cigar (looks to me like a snowflake). I've had mixed feelings about the whole Oliva line (the Blue Label "O"'s seem to taste muddy to me - very strong, almost too much). I figured I'd at least give it a try...

The construction on the cigar was VERY nice - very well made. The cigar was firm, but had some give to it. When I cut it and did a pre-light draw, there were very pleasant flavors, kinda woodsy and sweet. It smoked all the way down to the nub with no problems with the wrapper.

The burn on this was exceptional, as was the draw. The ash was tight and a nice light gray. Very nice amounts of rich, thick smoke. The flavor was right where I like it to be - fully in the medium to medium full range, with lots of complexity. It was not overpowering, and was very flavorful. I'm not great at describing flavors, but it definitely was complex (many different flavors) and had a kind of sweet taste to it.

This was a "nubber" - smoked the baby all the way down to the nub and wanted more. That is the way I like to leave cigars - makes me want to pick a few more of these up (actually, just won a 5er of the torpedos off of CBid!)

All in all - a 9 out of 10 in my book!!! a "Highly" recommended smoke!

Great review George. If we get a bunch of reviews going, this is where the "Blind Lead the Blind" pass could get really interesting. A review of the same supposedly good cigar that I did not like.

Personally I found the flavor spicy in a way that just overwhelmed my taste buds. I've liked spicy flavors from Don Carlos, and (very recently) Torano Exodus Silver so maybe I just need some more expeience before I try the Oliva Master Blends again. I still have a couple from the original purchase in deep sleep (they, along with the one you smoked are all about a year old).

That was the great, intriguing part of your pass. I took cigars with the idea I wanted to try them because I've heard great things about them. And I put cigars into the pass with 2 purposes - put those that I really didn't care for, even though they had been "highly" rated - and also put cigars I thought were very nice, but hadn't seemed to have gotten much press.

Thanks again for the great concept and GREAT pass!!!

I like them and you should try the flor de oliva bundles they're a darn good bundle which I heard are seconds of the oliva top shelf lines :)

I just smoked a MBI robusto last night. Stellar smoke-the best I have had in a month and smoking phenomenally now. The description in the first post (from almost four years ago) is still spot on.

If you have any buried in the humi, dig them out and burn them slowly as they are smoking very well. Or, PM me. ;)
