I have a friend going to the country in a few weeks. He has offered to bring back a couple of boxes of smokes for me. The question is what should I have him get. Is there something special that does not get imported over here? Or is there a htf group I should have him look for. Also if you have suggestions hopefully you know an approx. cost purchased in country so I can prepare him. He supposedly has his fiance working in the cigar business somehow.

Thanks for your suggestions!!!!

The only place to buy would be the airport, I believe. I was in the free trade zone in Nicaragua at the Honduran border and there were no cigars there.

Ok lets try this another way. What would be your favorite Nicaraguan cigar brand? Puros I assume would be preferred.

Tatuaje... :whistling:

Why?.. Are you headed to Esteli?

I may not be reading or understanding your question just right but it seems that most if not all of the best Nic creations are readily available here for order in the US and could probably be delivered to your door in a couple of days without any of the hassle of bringing them in from another country. Again I apologize if I am missing something here. Nice gesture by the friend either way.

Yes I realize that we can order things. My help foo is low I guess. I am wondering what special items may not be available for us here. Is there a European blend of stick that is unavailable to us. Is there something only sold at a factory in country? My friend is from Nicaragua and will be home for 3 weeks. So if needed I could make him work a little to find something special. If there is in fact a special box or two to be had that cannot be ordered online? Seems a shame to have a friend go to cigar central and not return with something extraordinary.

And thanks for clarifying for me Marcos. I was wondering why I did not get any responses to the query.
Lurch I will find out where in the country he will be.

Thanks guys!

You're going to be hard pressed to find any cigars, to bring back. I'd stick with other stuff from the duty free shop, maybe Rum and other liqours?

Actually I have no idea what you would actually find, to bring back.

So my mans Finance is a roller in Esteli. ;)
I get excited just thinking about that.
I don't know what company she works for but she is a roller according to him. I don't know if that helps my cause or not, as it appears the overall opinion here is that I should just order something and not worry about caring anything back. I guess I will just tell him to surprise me. I am sure his wife-to-be may have an inside scoop. So I will just play it fast and loose. Good things happen to good people.

I just checked several "mail order bride" sites...and found none that offered "Cigar Roller" as an option.

Hey... If you can get your hands on some quality fresh-rolls then go for it!!! Hell, Pete Johnson came up with his Tat Black by simply smoking a fresh roll from a local on an island with similar climate conditions as Nicaragua :whistling: So...just tell your buddy to hook you up with something interesting...

I second the idea of just getting one of her fresh rolled cigars which is unique anyway and smoking it there. Maybe taking one hitchhiker home with you to age for a bit.

Par3 isn't actually going to Nic... His buddy is going and is going to bring him back some stuff... for clarity's sake...

I asked my friend to let me know what factory his woman rolls for. So maybe monday I will have additional info.
BTW thanks for the fresh roll ideas. That's the type info I have come to expect from the educated members here. Thanks.

Get some local coffee! when i went to PR, i brought back a bunch of local coffee. it was a nice and interesting break from the stuff around here.

I second the coffee. I picked some in a mountain village in Honduras and it was damn tasty. Too bad the crap I got at the airport was garbage and if I would have known that, I would have got more from the village I visited.

To update my man got back from Esteli and brought me a few goodies. It seems his wife is a roller for the CAO company. So he brought a few boxes for me. Nothing too special except that it was hand carried from Nic to me. However he did bring me back a handful of unlabeled stuff the rollers get. Pics to follow. I have not smoked any of them yet but the CAO Carillos were great as well as the Maddy Anniversary. I think he paid around $2-$5 per box for the ones he bought. Apparently there is a slight markup ??? coming to America. I am sure it has more to do with the currency exchange.
