I have to give a huge thanks to Alan (Atuck) for sending this cigar to me (along with a couple other smokes that will be reviewed as well), I believe he mentioned this was from 2005. I thought I’d take a break from all the blind taste cigars and relax a little. It couldn’t be a more beautiful day with temps in the low 70’s, plenty of sun, and a perfect breeze blowing. I went up front with the wife and baby girl to watch them play while I put fire to this cigar.
This cigar was rolled exceptionally well with a smooth, medium brown wrapper that had only a slight oiliness to it. I like the way the tobacco is left covering the foot, and I can still see the rollers fingerprint in the glue on the cap. The cigar feels a little light in the hand and firm when squeezed. I clip the head with my Palio and draw is perfect with tastes of raw tobacco. Fire to the foot, and I begin my journey.
Once lit and burning good, I take a long draw and get a nice cinnamon spice in the mild to medium bodied smoke. Tastes of slightly muted dark brown sugar, toasted nuts and some grassiness come through. There’s also another flavor I can’t quite put my taste buds on. I would swear it was close to a coconut flavor that was fairly good. The burn is sharp with a strong medium gray ash forming.
I let the ash hold for as long as it would and it lasted almost a good three inches. The smoke remained a mild to medium with a soft spice and flavors of toasted nuts, leather, and sweet brown sugar. Although the flavors are good, they are still somewhat muted. The finish is short as well, but good on the palate, and the draw has been perfect.
Towards the end, flavors changed back and forth from good to a semi metallic taste. I found the finish to become slightly lasting and very good with a nice cocoa taste. The smoke remained a mild to medium to the end, where it did start to get hot with more of the metallic taste coming through in the smoke. This was a good cigar, however I have to admit I had expected a little more as far as flavor.
Thanks again Alan for the opportunity to sample such a rare cigar!
