Star in a Reasonably Priced Car Pass

So at what point in this thread did Sean post letting us know he would not be able to turn this around in a timely fashion? He's holding onto a pass (albeit with the host's permission) for going on two weeks and hasn't even had the courtesy to say something to the other pass participants? Here's a great example, "Hey guys, I had a bunch of things come up unexpectedly and at Marco's insistence I'm going to hold onto the pass and get my puts and takes done by the end of the week, sorry for the delay"

I haven't seen anything close to that yet, and in fact the last time I checked today could qualify as the end of the week, yet no puts and takes. If a guy has time to log onto the board and post elsewhere then I think he certainly has time to work on some puts and takes.

Why does everyone always insist that issues like this be worked out privately? Are you trying to hide something from the rest of the board that you don't want aired publicly? Does Sean not want the rest of the board to know that he's holding onto a pass for almost two weeks without even proposing some basic puts and takes?

If anyone has issues with me or thinks I'm not handling this properly you'd better pm me and we can discuss it privately, I'd hate for the entire board to find out that someone thinks I've done something wrong.
I for one find it pretty immature that someone with as much tenure here as yourself has stooped to the level of the people we try to keep out of here and chose to handle this in a ridiculous manner. I don't know you and have never dealt with you on here and from what I see here I have no desire to. The fact that it is an acceptable action here because of your tenure is a little silly . Posting in other thread just to stir some drama for yourself and bait him is childish. If you have nothing better to do than troll the boards and try to bait upstanding members here, then find something else because this is ridiculous. I invite mature responses to my commentary if you have any corrections to offer.

I am not condoning what is going on with Sean, my only beef is how this has been taken care of.

Thanks Marco for the chance to participate in my first pass but I'm going to respectfully request that I be taken off the list. No more passes for me thanks. There's plenty I've got to say about all of it but out of respect for my newbness I'm keeping quiet. You all have fun I'm cancelling my notifications of this thread.

PS, Marco, if those sticks I PM'd you about turn out to be good I'll send you a sampler for you to try.

I take a day away to paint the house and do electrical work, and this all comes down. Damn.

Sean said what he was going to do, and if the pass goes out with his puts and trades at the beginning of the week, he'll have done what he says. Criticizing him for that is just uncool. Would you tolerate that from a colleague at work, or a friend, or a neighbor? Much less a boss?

Right now, the buck stops here. If you think Sean shouldn't have held the pass for a week, then there's one person to criticise: Me. In the end, I'm accountable, and ultimately I'm responsible for all the drama that's transpired.

As of right now, the criticisms go to me. Where they should have gone from the beginning. That's the pass host's job - to make the decisions and to be held to account if they go wrong.

I have my P/T's. When they're approved, Boomer52 has already stated his readiness.

1. Take #5 Alec Bradley Tempus ($6.50)
Put #50 Rocky Patel 1990 Toro ($6.75)

2. Take #13 Torano Signature ($3.63)
Put #51 Nub Cameroon 3.75 ($3.75)

3. Take #30 Padilla Obsidian Beli ($5.50)
Put #52 CAO Cameroon Toro ($5.92)

4. Take #49 Fuente Hemi. Best Seller Nat ($5.50)
Put #53 Fuente Hemi. Signature Nat ($6.50)

The Rocky Patel 1990 is not truly representative of your average RP smoke, which is to say that it is actually pretty good. I enjoyed them for some time as a first smoke of the evening when I expected to smoke several cigars. The flavor and nicotine are both mild, leaving the palate and brain available for more smokes later, still experiencing the taste of the future smokes and keeping your meal on the inside, since you won't overdose on nicotine early in the session.

The Nub Cameroon is a balanced-flavor all-purpose smoke. The large diameter means you can take very large mouthfuls of smoke without worrying about turning the cigar too hot (the opposite of a lancero or panatela), it will last a good long while, and it won't knock you sideways in the nicotine department, either. It's flavors are stronger than average, but I'd still put it as medium smoke.

I tried the CAO Cameroon on the recommendation of a relatively new BOTL who described the flavor as bold and spicy. I think his humidor was a bit wet, because when I keep these babys at 65%, they're smooth and complex. They're perfect for sitting down with a glass of water or iced tea and watching a scenic vista.

I am a huge fan of the Fuente Hemingway series, and I'm running low on Best Sellers, but had an extra Signature. I personally feel you can't go wrong with them. I enjoy the entire line, and choose one based on the time available; they're my go-to daily smokes.

I think Andy has done quite a bit more for this board then you would ever dream of. But your response is indication of your maturity level, and a reason why many of the "tenured" members not longer post on CP, and many more a leaving.

Can you tell me where I was discrediting anything Andy has done on this board? So since I have an opinion on something I'm labeled immature now because said something against a FOG huh? Interesting

On with the cameroon-a-thon. Approved.

I am all for Cameroons. This business of cracked wrapper in the winter season is laziness.
All you need to do is get it wet before lighting. I had one today, and it worked fine, no cracks.

. If you have nothing better to do than troll the boards and try to bait upstanding members here, then find something else because this is ridiculous.

So you are talking about your own intentions here and not Gonz's? If that's the case then I apologize. You supplied the label, sorry you stuck to yourself. After all Gonz is a member of this pass and has every right to voice his concerns right or wrong.

Nice try. Think what you wish.

Look, everyone, enough with the threadjacking. The topic is closed.

I asked Andy to mentor me on the pass for very good reasons - he's a stand-up guy, he's reliable, he's been around the block and he's an excellent example for people to emulate. The comments on the pass thread have in no way changed my opinion.

I asked Sean to be part of the pass for many of the same reasons. He's said what he does, and did what he said.

The point is that both of these guys have very, very solid track records. If you're relatively new, like I am, keep that in mind - they're the sum of their words and deeds over a long period of time. It's not just today and it's not just yesterday.

In other words, cool off, and that goes doubly for people who aren't in the pass. Remember that your words make your reputation, and that you can't call them back. One guy has already left the pass because of the heated comments, and that reflects poorly on everyone here. If you're pissed off, step away from the keyboard, or take it to PM, or - best of all - take it to me directly.

I'll be watching for it. Hope it is protected from all this rain we are getting. Oh---- I forgot. It dosen't rain in Southern California. It's liquid sunshine.

I'll post my puts and takes today or tomorrow. Seanholio took a few I had my eye on. He also put in some interesting sticks too. That's what makes a pass fun though.

Lets get this car back on the road and be done with the thread jacking. :whistling: We are past the bumps in the road so lets have some fun.

Dave

Pass list's updated on the front page - Boomer, you're in progress, and Nimrod, you're on deck. Start thinking about your p/t's. :)

Nice p/t's Sean, I can't wait till it gets to my door. Glad to see everything is ok now too.

Here we go with my proposed puts and takes.

T. #3. 5 Vegas Series A Toro
P. #54 Oliva Series "O" Torpedo Habano Wraper

T. #10. CAO L'Anniversaire Cameroon Robusto
P. #55 La Aurora 1945 Series Robusto

T. #12. Carlos Torano 1916 Torpedo
P. #56 Padron 2000 Maduro

T. #17. Gran Habano #5 Corojo Robusto
P. #57 CAO Brazilia Piranah

T. #40. Cusano 18 Robusto
P. #58 Hoyo de Monterey Dark Sumatra Ebano

Let me know if these are good. If so, I will post my comments on each of my puts and get the pass back on the road. :D If not, back to the drawing board. :( The box should be hitting my door pretty soon.

Thanks for letting me play.

I'm sorry to see you go and wish you would reconsider Kevin. I don't think what has happened here is a typical example of a friendly Cigar Pass and definitely not the direction Marco intended. The concept of this Pass has perfect timing in these economic times and should be a lightning rod for similar passes in the future.

Please give it a little more time and see how you feel in a few more days, CP needs new & enthusiastic members like yourself....you may be a newbie, but you have a lot to offer the Community.

I think that the "standard" 1495 is corojo - not that I'd object to any of the others of course.

Looking at boxprices, the Cusano for Hoyo Dark Sumatra is a little light. (4.44 vs. 2.80 a stick at Famous - I'm not at my laptop so I can't look at the cigarcyclopedia price spread, but eyeballing google shopper's first page of results leads me to believe that that's roughly accurate) The boxes are about the same price, but there are only 18 in a box of Cusano, 25 in a box of Hoyo.

If you'd like to propose another put for the Cusano, another take for the Hoyo, or both - the world's your oyster.
