Hi everyone, I'm a collector of old, vintage cigar boxes. Mostly old wooden boxes that are Cuban and dated with a tax paid stamp from any of the states. I was looking through ebay today and found a great box from 1869 and was wondering if anyone here would have any info on it, if the brand is recognizable to you, ect. Its very interesting because of General Grant and that it is from Massachusetts. It also has the rare 1868 100 cigar tax stamp, and I don't have any in my collection yet. Anyways happy 4th everyone!

Jake,

That looks like a really cool box! I'm not too well versed in Cuban cigar box history, but someone might have some information for you.

This forum has a plethora of information and some great people. Stick around!

Oh thank you so much, I've been looking all night and didn't find much, turned to the forums and there it is. Thank you so much for clearing that up for me, really cool! The time period it seems is between the war and his presidential election. Political box it is, from a very nice Cuban cigar grower n roller. Thanks again for the info and clearing that up for me.

Jake, I'm not sure anyone here would have any expertise on the box you are asking about. However, you might contact Nick at the Gotham cigar museum and get his input:

Best of luck

I'm confused, do you need it for your collection and are looking for information, or are you selling it?

So you're selling and live in Somersworth? I live in Rye and Work in Portsmouth. I'll meet and inspect it. Lets meet up over the weekend at TopShelf Cigars in Dover. The owner might know something about the box. It's only about a 10 min. ride for both of us.

Go away.

Take your ebay shilling elsewhere.

Edited to add quotes:

And from the other site linked above:

Hi everyone, this is for all the cigar box collectors out there. I have a very nice and original General U.S. Grant Cuban cigar box from 1868 with the rare 100 cigar 1868 tax ribbon with handwritten date of August 29th 1868 on the ribbon. It is very interesting and has generated a few hits already so I figured I would put it here since this is an advertisement of sorts. Thanks for looking!

Nice catch.

It was also nice to see him try to apologies (in another thread).

Oh - I like this quote from --->here<---:

"Do people purposely not read the announcement that says "Must Read Before Posting" just to bother me?"

Followed by this:

"I've actually been on this board for over a year now, I just haven't been on for a while and my account was deleted! Awesome. Yes, I know the rules, and I'm not being an ass or trying anything stupid for the heck of it. I'm a responsible user of these forums and have been, I was merely trying to make a few bucks to pay off my credit card for even BEING part of this community in the first place. All these forums are now a days is who can catch who doing anything wrong and think they're all supermen because the only power you really have is in these forums. I'm done with these forums for good, I'll stick with PCPER they actually care about the PEOPLE and not just the stupid "rules" that make no sense and are just there for [ah so] like you to enforce. See you later.

PS Maybe if your forums weren't so uptight you'd have some users and not a 10th of what most PC forums have. Think about it."

Oh yea...Happy Friday!

Whooops....looks like you have a few boards to apologies on! LINKY to SC

Oops, got caught with your pants down, did we?

This is exactly what was being discussed in the other thread recently. Someone new comes to the place and their first post is I'm searching for this or I need to authentic a box of White Owls. Those that come here to learn and participate are welcome, others will be shown the door!
