Okay CP,

Here's the contest:

You do it. I do it. Hell, alot of us do it. What exactly is Souldoggy talking about? Why, "The Ash Game" of course! That little game you play where you try to see how long you can get the ash to stay on the end of your cigar without having it fall off unexpectedly onto you, thus filling your siginificant other's ears with your curses as you desired to take the ash to the band! Well, now is the time that this childish game pays off! I am holding a contest to see who can have the longest ash (cue sexual innuendo comments now)!!

The Rules:

1.) This is an INTEGRITY BASED CONTEST. Nothing foreign is allowed in your cigar to assist in the structural integrity of the ash (i.e. Toothpicks, straightened paperclips, or "promotional burning;" where you burn the wrapper in attempts to make the wrapper burn further down than the tobacco). Established and respected members are encouraged to cry foul if they see it, and it will be taken to heart in the judging process.

2.) As I am sure this has been done previous times, the cigar submitted as an entry must be smoked AFTER this posting (05/03/2008 @ 0954 hrs California Time).

3.) You must be an active member of this board in GOOD STANDING, without a history of "online freakouts" posted AFTER my join date, 02/06/2008.

4.) You must submit "progress pictures" with your entry (as seen below).

5.) Name the cigar that you are entering, including it's stats. Such as my entry: Anejo #77 Shark, 5.875 x 64.

6.) This is a "Longest Ash" contest. If you take a AF Short Story to the band, but it only measures 3 inches, no dice. Nice entry, but may not win.

7.) I am the sole judge and jury on this, so no complaining!

Now to the PRIZE:

A nice 5'er of my favorite smokes, including an Anejo #77, shall be offered.

Now, my entry:

Anejo #77 Shark, 5.875 x 64.

Contest will end on 06/03/2008. Once again, this is an INTEGRITY BASED CONTEST. Nothing foreign is allowed in your cigar. I am giving you folks a month, so get to work! :sign:

Good luck, and happy "ashing!"

Nice play Jonathan!! Mark and I will smoke some sticks to see if we can come up with a nice entry. I am also meeting with P Mulligan in a couple of weeks so I might have to bring my camera with me to see if either charlie or myself might come up with a good entry. Again nice contest I like it.

Jim

ha, the contest ends on my birthday. Interesting.... not sure why though. I guess its really not that interesting is it.

I should win since that's the 77 I sent you :p

Oh look, 15234 posts that won't happen again any time soon.

Bump because there are no takers?!?!

PANSIES!!! :p

Well I'm guessing the ash keeps falling off, thus requiring restarts hehe. Cool contest though! :)

I don;t know what kind of contest you're running here, but from hearing jfk talk about it in the chat room last night, I'm not sure I'm really interested...

Don Carlos Double Robusto 5.75x52Smoked on 5-09-08 smoked it a bit below the band before I knocked it off with less than an inch left.

Look Ma, no paper clip.

VSG Torpedo from 2000 6.5x52
Smoked it down to about less than an inch before the ash fell. Got the ash to a little over the 5.5 inch mark.

Oh thanks for the contest opportunity, this will be a good one, and a good excuse to smoke a specific something i've been craving!

I gurantee anyone that can stand to smoke the Camacho Triple Maduro will win. I have never seen a cigar that consistantly holds ash better than this cigar....but....SMOKING IT IS THE PROBLEM! Jezus the cigar is FULLA kicks in the nuts.

I realize that I can't possibly hold a candle to any of the monsters already posted, particularly since I can't smoke indoors and there's almost always at least a mild breeze, but my attempt turned out to be so pathetically laughable that I thought it was worth sharing.

I told the guy at my closest B&M about this contest a while ago and asked for his advice on what I should use as my entry. He immediately and enthusiastically implored me to try my hand with a La Flor Dominicana Cameroon Cabinet No. 4 (6 1/4 x 54). "Big, beautiful, strong ash on this one, etc." Lots of superlatives and hearty endorsement. I thought I had my ringer.

Perhaps I picked up a dud, but I've had a few short filler cigars with far more robust ashes than this one provided. It began peeling, flaking, and crumbling at about the 1" mark.

It fell off four minutes after the last picture was taken.

The cigar itself was just barely passable. Better at the start and the end with a forgettable middle. It burned for an hour and forty-five minutes, and I could have milked it for another half-hour or so if it had been worth it. Poor construction, mild unravelling, uneven burn, a little split towards the shoulder after a while, weak draw, inconsistent smoke, mildly unpleasant odor. I'm going to let the other one I bought sit for a good while--what's it going to do, get worse?

The more I absorb from hanging around CP, the less confidence I have in anything the guy at this shop ever tells me.

ha, the contest ends on my birthday. Interesting.... not sure why though. I guess its really not that interesting is it.

First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVAN!!! After much thought and discussion, Evan and I picked a winner...and the winner of The Ash Game contest is:

Great job Greg, there were a lot of GOOD GOOD entries by some good BOTLs, and it was hard to pick a winner, but Greg's horizontal ash on the Paddy 80th was amazing! So well done to YOU sir!
