Short Torpedo 5x54
Wrapper: Sumatra
Binder: Honduras
Filler: Dominican Republic
I received three cigars from Brad at Jameson Cigar this past week (thanks Brad!). A Short Torpedo 5 x 54, Petit Corona 5 x 44, and Churchill 7 x 50.
I decided to start with the short torpedo. Construction was very good with one central vein down one side the dark sumatra wrapper. Tooth was visible, especially around the tapered head and the feel was very hard with little give. The cigar had a decent weight in the hand and good bunching to the foot.
I clipped the head and toasted the foot, then set fire to this nice looking smoke. The first several minutes of smoking I found it to be quite on the mild side. Burn was very even with a nice light gray ash. About a third in, the cigar took a fairly substantial turn from mild to a very nice medium body with a slight spice. A nice buttered toast flavor came through with a hint of woodiness. This lasted throughout the rest of the smoke.
Not a very complex cigar, however the buttery smoothness and medium body was a good match for me. A very enjoyable smoke to the nub.
