I almost left the forum completely in favor of another after I received a slam of posts about searching (after I had attempted to fully search the site). I still post there as much as I do here, and I never would have gone there if the slogan was true about friendly.

Sure there's always going to be people who ask the same questions. Searching on this site is NOT that great. Sorry Rod, but I've seen much better search tools on other forums that allow for a lot more advanced functionality. So the automatic response of Search is your friend is bogus.

IMHO, some folks around here expect everyone to know everything like they do. So to be a newb around here and post is dangerous. I wonder how many people around here have questions they'd like to post, but don't post for fear of looking like a newb and bitch slapped by someone about searching.

I've given CP another chance, and things are working out a little bit better as my post count has climbed. But it was rough at first.

I just spent 20 minutes searching through your posts and threads and I'll be damned if I can find a single instance of a slam post. I did see dozens of helpful, courteous replies to you. What, exactly, are you talking about?

This is a mistake to think that you are getting acceptance by your post count.

July '07, 130 Posts in a little over a month. WOW! If you learned anything in your short time here so far, post counts account for nothing in this forum. Many a noob has gone down in flames trying to defend this position.

I have met CP members that have less than 50 posts but for sure have some of the greatest credibility and character.

Wurm: Search IS your friend and folks here encourage noobs to use it. Harsh is too strong a word to lable direction and guidence, more like a gentle nudge in the right direction. If people answer every question posted without "search is your friend" then why search at all?
 
Maybe we should invite Dr. Phil to help some of those that are rough here. Pretty soon we could start to do reach arounds and make sure all the noob's feel real welcome.

If a person can not take a little abuse then they should go to one of those asshat cigar boards anyway where the "MODS" make everyone feel right at home.

What is it that you like about this place that keeps you coming back?

And we're all so glad you gave us a 2nd chance! This place just would have fallen apart had you not done that for us...

I didn't say that my post count had a damn thing to do with anything, I just stated that with my post count climbing, the derogatory comments about my posts have decreased. eh, what's the use, you guys know everything and all the answers lie in the search, so I guess there's no use psoting anything anymore. Oh wait, maybe that's the whole point of belonging to a web forum.

Grow up, you aren't e-cool because you can be the first to tell someone to search, whether you know that person did search or not. Sure, there's people that join and drop a one hitter here, just like every other forum. But the attitude is sure to make new people who could be grow to be great members wonder if they should look elsewhere.

And there are other sites with just as good content here, this isn't like a secret club of coolness. The idea of someone outwardly bashing another board is just lame. Grow up. If you have to resort to bashing the "competition" you've already proved something.

The reason I do stay here is because of the other users who seem to be helpful and funny. They aren't condescending to anyone and they genuinely act like they are here to be part of something that adds a positive flair of something to their life.

I'm one of those people. You can call me names, or whatever, but I could care less actually. I'll just stick to the posts I like and not respond to anything since I'm a noob.

Luckily there are more people who are positive than negative. That's why I stay here. My post was merely giving a noob's opinion. If you don't like, get over it or hate me forever. See if i care. :)

The derogatory comments are not directly proportional to the number of posts you have, again another fallacy. You have missed the point, it does not matter how many posts you have but what is in them that is most important. Quality, not quantity is the key here. You indicated that the higher your post count got the less derogatory the comments became; you are in essence selling yourself short. Did you stop to think that the derogatory comments were diminishing due to an improvement in, perhaps, content and NOT your post count?

Sorry, I had already posted and I wasn't completly finished. Rather than anyone think i was editing posts to change what I was saying I just posted something new. When you edit a post in some sort of argument or online tissy the assumation is that you made an ass of yourself and you are trying to change it before anyone notices, or even after someone has noticed..

What is it with people acting like Martyrs lately? I mean seriously, do we have a bunch of crosses just laying around here? If you don't like this forum....leave! It's not that hard to figure out how this place works and it's not for everyone. We all made mistakes when we first started and I chalked them up as lessons learned and moved on. Grow some thicker skin and get some humility (and some common sense) or leave.

I would rethink what you posted. This board has done things certain ways since it started and will keep doing them. Thick skin and read more and post less or was that post less and tape more. So many good one liners here.
