I am interested in Gurkha's but have never tried one. I have noticed that they are pretty popular among the cigar community. How would you describe their taste? I would guess this is more of a spicy cigar. Do they vary a lot between their series or are they pretty consistent? What would you recommend (keeping price in mind).

Thanks

Dan

There is like 900 gurkha lines (sarcasm)... so its hard to keep up with all the different types as K. Hansotia enjoys flooding the market. Didn't I send you one in cammy shade? Those are nice early am smokes as it has some nuttyness and sweetness but little to no spice. As far as pricing goes, on Cbid, they can be had for much lower than the 'MSRP.'

That's a second on CigarBid. I vowed never to buy a Gurkha anywhere other than CBid.

My favorite of the line is the Napalese Warrior. Cameroon wrapper and very toothy. Medium Bodied.
The Regent is also a good smoke. Also Medium bodied.
I don't care for the Double Maduro or the Signature 101 Maduro.
The Vintage is mild.
Seems like I'm missing one that was also pretty mild.
Oh well. My suggestions are the NW and the Class Regent.
.... if that counts for anything.

They're all different and most are crap, imo. The Regent and cognac infused ones are good (medium body, not spicy) and the only one's I'd buy regularly. Everyone has different tastes, though, so try 'em out.

Yeah Gurkha has way too many cigar lines... I've learned to just give them a pass. There are better cigars out there, IMHO.

Class Regent and Expedition are the best imo. Out of the Legend series, I prefer the Anniversary Perfecto, it just tastes so much better than the other Legends. Of course cbid has gurkhas on a regular basis ranging from $2 - $4 per stick.

I got up to 24 different Gurkhas in the humi once so they probably make something you'd like. For me I snag the Signature 101 pretty regularly and the Doble Maduro is decent too. I like the Legends series in general for an evening smoke and I've had good luck with the perfecto while some have had uneven burn problems.

Yes, you did send me one. I am letting it rest for a while. I just got my cabinet humidor steady and am waiting.

I am a little suprised by the responses, I thought they were much more respected and highly thought of. They are way too pricey for normal smokes for me, just thought they may be good special occasion sticks. Based on the replys, I guess I will look elsewhere.

Thanks

Dan

I put them in the same boat as a CAO or Rocky Patel. I smoke them now and then, but none make my go-to smoke.

Points to the brazilia though heh.

I do agree with Dave about the Regent and Expedition. I often turn to the Expedition for a morning cigar. They do push out a lot of lines so you have to make sure you know what you like before you drop the dime for a box. Don't be afraid to experiment as that is part of the joy.

You have great taste.

Ditto!!

It amazes me how these "Rolls Royce of Cigars" normally wind up getting blown out on CI for Kia prices. They do make some good ones, but even those are nothing to rave about, and sure as hell aren't worth their inflated MSRP (in my experience, anyway). I'm not saying they're turning out total dog rockets, but to me they're middle of the road sticks at premium-plus prices.

As has been pointed out, if you're wanting some, you can pick them up cheap all day long on Cbid, and in CI sales.

As many have said Cbid. As someone said (I don't remember who), Legend Anniversario. Very smooth, little spice, but I wouldn't call it a morning cigar. I like the Genghis Khan's as well. The master's Select line is a little smokier tasting but they are more affordable. I personally did not like the Grand Age, just something about it. I have heard the G3's are really good but mine is sitting in my humidor waiting. Also, after May 26th I am reviewing a preembargo Gurkha. The Vintage are OK, the Regent's are OK, it all depends on what you like. I think 900 was about right on the number of lines though.

Like the others said, use cbid and pay a fraction of what they "retail" for. Personally I don't smoke them but my dad enjoys them so I keep a bunch of legends on hand for him.

Honestly, i'd let it sit another week and smoke it and see how you like it. The one I sent you is about 6 mo old, more or less. If you like it, you'll know a 'cheaper' route , if not, you can try others.

Hmm, I loved the RP Connecticut and CAO Gold that I have tried...

Thanks, will do. What was the series you sent me? It was a cameroon wrapper you mentioned?
