Hello all,

I received three free samples of the Armando Magus cigars. And today I fired up the smallest of the three. I was pleasantly surprised.

:) A very nice smoke, with an almost creamy flavor, it had a nice draw, lots of smoke and pleasant aroma. Here are some images:

Whats the difference between the red M and blue M cigars Tim? They look wonderful, enjoy the rest! :thumbs:

Just a guess, but I'd suppose the blue banded one is closer to a natural wrapper, at least it is a shade lighter in color.

Here is the advertisement as was sent to me by the vendor:

"...the sampler is of MAGUS--just rated 8.9 in SMOKE magazine, this is the only cigar in world made with "Hoja de Pantano" wild Ecuadorian swamp tobacco-- this tobacco grows in the waters of a swamp in west-central Ecuador, RIGHT in the swamp, not on a plantation, not in soil, not actually cultivated at all, just picked wild. Its a spicy, rich and totally unique flavor. It burns cool, and manages to smoke strong and smooth at the same time--hence its nickname--"THE IRON FIST IN A VELVET GLOVE"."

I've contacted the fellow who sent them to me to get some more details, I'll pass them on when I hear back from him.

 
Brewmeister, becoming a shill for Paul Magier and his cigars is not the way to treat your BOTL's. He has scammed cigar smokers with his fake pre embargo cigars since 1998. He hires shills by sending them free cigars who then go on sites like this to talk up his product. He is no friend to cigar smokers.

Thanks for the information, I had no idea that this was anything other than three free samples, and my unsolicited honest opinion. I posted it as I have other cigars that were new to me, and that I've not seen reviewed. I searched this forum and did not find mention of the MAGUS cigar. And I believe you when you say that Paul Magier is no friend to the cigar smoker. Although that is not the name associated with the free samples sent to me, if you say he is not worthy that is good enough for me. And I say again, thanks for pointing that out.

However, I assure you I am not ANYONE'S SHILL, and I don't appreciate the accusation. It was not my intention to dupe, scam or otherwise mislead nor fraudulently promote a product. And my opinion of the cigar, is still my opinion, I certainly did not pose as a satisfied customer to promote these. I am in no way affiliated with the manufacturer, the vendor nor any other persons connected to these smokes. Additionally, I clearly stated that I received three cigars as a free sample.

My integrity is something I consider very precious, please in the future, do not imply or otherwise accuse me of things you have no basis in fact to assert.

HERE HERE!!! It was an unwarrented and ill-conceived accusation to be sure.

Tim is a stand-up guy as were all of the CP members that I met about a month ago at a herf in DC. I am proud to be able to call them fellow BOTLs. I thought it was made pretty clear in what he wrote that he has no affiliation with the cigar or the manufacturer.
 
On a side note of the shill / no shill debate, I noticed some distinct design influences in the band design.

I assumed that everyone knows the history of Magier, PMagus, and all his other aliases. I forgot where I was( at CF he has a long history of these kinds of actions) I forget that a lot of you guys weren't around in the late 90's.

This guy has numerous names and he has numerous cigars with a lot of different names. The history is long and sorted and truthfully I don't feel like going through all of his transgressions at this time. The short story is this, he makes fake pre embargo cigars, he doesn't like to pay his bills, and he gives away a lot of cigars so people will shill for him,he uses a number of aliases on a lot of different cigar BB's to shill his own product. He has been banned from numerous cigar BB's because of his anonymous shilling.

Like I said he is no friend to BOTL's.
 
The Master, your apology is accepted, thanks for that. I assure you I was ignorant of the entire story. And thanks for the further explanation I'll be on the look out for his aliases in the future. Furthermore, I will not provide any further mention of him nor his smokes on this forum or elsewhere.

Thanks again for educating me...sometimes this kind of "stuff" needs resurfaced so us newbies can gain the knowledge that years of experience has provided to you. If I hadn't posted it I may have never learned.

is there a place the us new guys can read about the bad dealings? i dont like to support a bad guy ......im on a few boards and it would seem that they all need a bad guy sticky thread
 
Brew,thanks for accepting my apology. It is a good thing you brought this up, there are a ton of new guys who I am sure have never heard about Magier and his antics. You should have seen the beating this guy took back in 98 when he was outted for shilling his cigars anonymously. It made for some great reading.lol
 
Is he the guy who founded "Pinar" ?

Wurm, yes he is the one. He made the scumbag page years ago for not paying the guy from Australia for well over 2 years.
 
This is intersting. I never heard of this guy...making a note to self now.
 
I had not heard of him either. I guess we should all be skeptical of people who send us free cigars.

Yes, giving people free cigars in hopes that they will 1)like them 2)talk about them 3)maybe buy some one day that is truly duplicitous and downright sinister what a nasty nasty thing to do. And the good guys at all the reputable cigar companies would never, EVER do that, even face to face at a herf, or at an in-store event, or just because they feel like it. So remember, boys and girls, if a manufacturer GIVES you a free cigar, no matter how much you like it, do not tell anybody what you think of it, or you will be supporting them in their nefarious scheme to have people taste them. :sign:
