They seem to have some decent prices on some of their stock. Offer some good deals as well. Have ordered other merchandise from them, but never ISOMs. Anyone have any experience.

Oh yeah, here is the link...

www.Absolutecigars.com

Let me know what you think.

I thought Cubans were illegal to buy in the US?

Oh yeah. Scot - I forgot to tell you that talking about sources of ISOMs on the board is frowned upon. Sorry about that. :(

I got "reprimanded" for the same thing before I knew better. :p

OK. Have to address this. My post does not seem any different from a dozen or more other posts. Also, there are sites that offer ISOMs that advertise on CP. Now, if it is frowned upon, fine, but shouldn't people be getting PMs for everyone of these posts. Furthermore, how are the sites able to advertise here. Just seems a little silly to me.

Your post specifically deals w/ ISOMs, which are illegal to buy in the US. Any discussion of sources that you use or buy from are frowned upon. Take it to PM or ask FOGs for opinions on specific sites/retailers. IMO, the retailers are able to advertise b/c they aren't in the US and therefore it's not illegal for them to advertise the fact that they have Cuban cigars for sale.

There are certain vendors we do and don't talk about.

The ones that advertise on this site are not what I'm talking about.

To err on the side of caution however, these conversations are best discussed in private... ;)

You know, I have been wondering about this myself. CP is based in the US as I understand. I also believe that probably 98% of it's members are from the US. CP has links to "Recommended Retailers" which are all based outside of the US and sell ISOMs. It seems like a bit of a double standard. CP can post links to retailers that sell ISOMs, retailers can post specials and advertise in the forum, yet WE cannot discuss it on the boards. ???

Yes, ISOMs are illegal in the US - everyone knows that. However, TALKING about retailers does not imply that you have or ever will order from one. There is even a special forum for discussion of ISOMs. How can we discuss something that supposedly no one is supposed to have? Passes include ISOMs from time to time but no one has a problem with the discussion or posting there.

I'm not trying to stir anything up here - in fact, I am trying to get some clarification as to WHY it is frowned upon talking about retailers who sell ISOMs here.

bfreebern please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think what is being said here is that talking openly and specifically about sources may bring about unwanted scrutiny of sources, individuals and this site by entities that may not be sypathetic to this particular pursuit of happiness.

I think that is exactly why openly discussing sources, etc. is frowned upon. I understand this. What I do not understand is why no one thinks that Cigar Pass posting "Recommended Retailers" that specifically deal in ISOMs is not a problem. How does this bring any less scrutiny to this site or the retailers than us discussing these retailers ourselves? So far, no one has been able to explain this to me. ???

Cigar Pass caters to those overseas, as well as the US. If someone who uses this board lives overseas and uses the Retailers section to buy cigars, that is within their ability to do so. It is up to the individual whether or not they want to openly discuss sources. Like Lee said, there are sources that aren't discussed openly and widely used by many people here. I understand it's a contradiction for people to openly discuss cigars, but not sources. That's just the way it is.

This may or may not have answered your question Jingles.

Still not crystal clear but that helps explain it a bit. ;) Why don't we just preface all talk of sources with "My cousin who lives in Portugal..."? :p

I am still very much a noob around here and this is probably a question best answered by a FOG. That said, I am going to take a shot in the dark. I think it might be kinda like when Heidi Fleiss, the infamous Hollywood madam got arrested. The powers that be seemed willing to look the other way as long as she demonstrated a reasonable amount of discretion. She apparently became less discrete than they were willing to tolerate. There appears to be a fine line that lacks definition here that most people prefer to stay on the cautious side of. I don't know if that is a satisfactory explaination for you. It's just how I have come to interpret it. :)

Scot - Here are some elephants for the room. Please refrain from talking about them, discribing them, making reference to them, naming them, feeding them, taking pictures of them, hunting them, etc......

Look up the old Mark Twain quote:

"It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt."

Jingles and the Dawg are right.....let's put this hypocrisy to a end!

Hell, at this point, I have a pretty good idea where the FOGs acquire the best stuff at the best prices. These old timers have spent years of trail and error researching sources; building a relationship of trust and loyalty by spending hard earned dollars. I bet some of these sources were even in business before the Internet became all the rage!

I think it's time we made these sources public knowledge, not only for the sake of the CigarPass brethen, but also to the other thousands of readers of the site who don't take the time to register and join the clubhouse.

I think after 6 month...screw that....30 days and 100+ posts, any registered member of CP should have the right to openly discuss any and all sources, regardless of the implications for those that purchase from these sources. In fact, i think that it's a FOGs duty and responsibility to make sure all nooblers acquire a reliable and trusted source within their first 60 days of membership.

Why should Rod benefit from one of the only sources of revenue to cover the ever growing CigarPass expenses, through these "reliable retailer banners", but allow this hyprocrisy to continue!

Spill the beans you FOGs, the gig is up!

MMM,

That wasn't necessary. Cigardawg asked a simple question and was subsequently reamed through PM. In terms of both knowledge and quantity of cigars, he is probably more of a FOG than 99% of the people here. And myself, I was simply asking for a little clarification regarding what is acceptable and why. No need to get your patties in a wad. Wow, it's amazing how quickly people here can turn on you (especially if you are a "newbie") for asking a legitimate question. There was absolutely no need for sarcasm. Period. Cigar Pass' new motto: "This is a real friendly place - until you ask a question you are not supposed to."

No, no, Jingles, I am with you on this one dude!

I've been meaning to ask if CubansBySecretCouriertotheUSA.com was legit for months now! Maybe now I will finally get an answer. ;)

In fact, I think that it was necessary, as there seems to be a rash of members who have recently been pushing the limits on posting source information. CigarPass is already more lenient regarding its tolerance for discussing sources then virtually all other cigar boards. If you have spent any time on other cigar forums, this would be obvious.

Funny didn't you and I discuss this very subject in a series of PMs last month? Whimper elsewhere if necessary.

And no panties in a wad...I go commando.
