Good smoke shops in San Francisco?

I'm headed out to San Francisco for the week -- are there any good smoke shops people might recommend in the Bay area? San Fran, Cupertino, etc. are all well within my range... thanks in advance.
 
MY HOUSE is a GREAT smoke shop!

LOL, What part of the bay you headed to. If we have time we should meet up and have a smoke.

I'm staying in Cupertino at a friend of mine's place, but we're heading to Laguna to a Sake shop, and I figured I might head out to a smoke shop if there was a good one.

I'm there for business, but it'd be great to meet up if it was possible. Will advise.
 
Coopertino is relitivly close to where I work. I will recomend a shop in the Los Gatos area.

They carry MANY fuentes Usually have a full stock of Don Carlos AND Hemmingway. Lots of Diamond Crown ( Including Maximus)

Some punch now, HDM, they carry ashton cabinets, maduro's and VSG's

A FULL line of Avo all the way to Domaine including maduro's AND the Avo 77

La unica, yadda yadda yadda. Pretty decent size humidor. Cigars are stored on the wet side, but still decent smokes right out of the store (which sounds like it may be the case for you).


If you keep going down union avenue there is another store, VERY HIGH PRICES. They are charging 40 bucks for a Opus X Super Beli!!! They have some good smokes though if your willing to pay the markup. Monte whites are proly the best stuff they got right now. They do have some PAM PAN and some other high end stuff but all WAY over priced and I refuse to pay it. Honestly thinking about reporting that guy cause his prices are so steep. (Don't the fuente's have a way to stop gouging like that?) Place is named Cambell Cigars, (Not in cambell though ??? ) I wouldnt recomend it, but if you can't find anything at the other store and are a rich man you could head there.

Just wanted to bump this back up. I'll be in the Union Square area, May 6-11, staying at the Pan Pacific with my wife for some conference she's attending.

So I'm looking for any cigar freindly bars or establishments as well as any decent (not overpriced) shops around the Union Square area.

Also, MilesMingusMonk, do you have any suggestions where I could check out some live jazz in that area?

Bonus points for anyone who can suggest live jazz where I can enjoy a fine cigar as well!

I am going to be in SF over the weekend. Since there was no answer to Gonz's question about a shop around Union Square, I don't have much hope of finding one either. But what the heck!

The options become much more numerous as you leave the city and head south towards Palo Alto, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Saratoga, Los Gatos and San Jose. All depends on how much time you want to spend driving around. Cupertino I've heard has some newer B&M's that have opened, supposedly pretty nice.

I'd strongly suggest The Occidental Cigar Club when in San Francisco. It's in the Union Square/Embarcadero area, as I remember it. It's essentially an owner operated bar. They have a very good selection of Scotch Whisky and wine (in addition to other spirits and beers), at a reasonable cost. Outside food is allowed, as is food delivered from local restaurants - several of which they provide menus for. They do have a limited selection of cigars. I cannot tell you what price those go for, but I can say that their selection and amount of stock was very poor and their humidor condition was highly suspect. Bring your own cigars and have a good time. Oh, no cutting fee.

I have heard good things about the occidental club in the past but haven't been there personally. I usually do my smoking in the north bay area. I would offer to come down and meet you for a smoke but I am best man in a wedding this weekend and will be pretty tied up from now until monday. Have a great trip!

That sounds terrible! The place opened up well after my departure from those parts, that's sure, but this place sounds like it will all come down to the crowd/environment. In other words, a place you can simply go smoke, grab a drink, and, if you wish, have some food delivered.

But, if the environment/crowd isn't right, it definitely doesn't sound like it'd have any other redeeming qualities.
 
Yeah the trick is finding a place to relax with a smoke in the city. I almost always bring my own cigars in anyways because the prices are pretty outrageous.

You, sir, have hit the nail on the head. It is a wonderful place to simply enjoy a smoke and grab a drink of much better quality than can normally be found in such a casual atmosphere. Or, a smoke and a meal, if you wish. The point being, they gladly accept your inside cigar smoking. However, they are not trying to make cigars a point of revenue, so you are encouraged to bring your own cigars and not pay excessive cigar/cutting costs.

I have only been there about four times. I have yet to encounter an unfavorable environment/crowd. It's a nice, comforting mix. Not a high end, stuff crowd. Yet, the better quality Whiskys, Bourbons, wines, and other spirits they offer helps keep away the beer chugging let's get into a fist fight kinda crowd. I'd say it's a 30-60 year old crowd.
