From Arganese's website:

Maduro Chairman Torpedo
Ring: 52
Length: 6 7/8
Band color: White

Wrapper: Maduro, Brazilian Matafina
Binder: Indonesian
Filler: Dominican

A medium-bodied cigar made of the finest, hand picked tobaccos, carefully aged for 7 years. Dominican Republic and Cuban seed Dominican grown tobaccos are exquisitely blended to give you a perfect smoke every time. Hints of chocolate and sweetened coffee flavors highlight the experience.

I've smoked several Arganese cigars now, and decided to light up the Maduro Chairman Torpedo. Again, Gene has done a great job at blending a fine cigar!

Construction of the cigar was very good. Pre-light aroma was pleasant, slightly sweet smelling. Clipped just a tad off the head, and the draw was tight for obvious reasons - the foot of the cigar tapers down to a point. This cigar was easy to light, and required no maintenance.

Started off with just a hint of spice. As the cigar burned and the foot opened up, the draw became perfect. Took about 5 minutes before the foot was fully ignited (again, due to the taper). On a side note, I've seen people clip off the foot of a tapered cigar... Personally I think it's best to light the foot and allow it to open up naturally.

Some of the flavors I picked up from this cigar are: spice, coffee, cinnamon/nutmeg (quite a bit actually toward the middle of the cigar), and chocolate towards the end of the cigar. I did not have to touch up the burn at all - the cigar burned remarkably well. The flavors were subtle for the most part, yet quite distinguishable.

One thing I've noticed about Arganese cigars is that all of the ones I've smoked so far have had a very pleasant sweet profile to them. A great mid-afternoon cigar or after dinner smoke.

Cigar lasted about 1 hour, and I really enjoyed it. My hats off to Gene Arganese for creating yet another fine cigar. I'm looking forward to trying his other blends/sizes.

Nice review Rod, and GREAT pics! I also like letting a tapered cigar find its own way to a full on burn. Gonna have to try this one...

I'd like to see a side by side shot of the maduro and the natural (if there is a natural version). That's a pretty light maduro to my eye. Maybe it's just the lighting of the photos.

These sound intriguing. I may have to scoop up a couple to try.

Nice review. I'll have to give the sampler a try. I guess people really do only cut 1/4 inch from a torpedo/perfecto/figurado....go figure.

Nice review Rod. That Cigar is a definite on my try list. I love Brazilian Mata Fina, which I suspect contributed to the sweetness you commented on. I have visited their website in the past and have to say that I enjoyed it more than most manufacturers sites.

FYI....

Just got this emailed to me today. Looks like Gene Arganese will be visiting Marty's in Glendora on Friday, June 27 from 6PM To 8PM. For those of you who have never been, Marty's is a really nice little shop. If your a local, get on his email list. He's (Rio, the owner) always has some kind of an event going on.

Quote from email.....

"Gene Arganese will be visiting Marty's on Friday, June 27 to introduce his two newest cigars, the CL-3 and ML-3. The cigars have been in development for some time and will be officially released a few days before the event. I tasted these cigars when I visited Arganese in February. The CL-3 is in a corojo wrapper and has medium to full body with complex flavors which stay consistent from beginning to end. The ML-3 is a maduro with a softer flavor, but with its own multi-layered flavor profile. Both cigars were very young, but I enjoyed them very much. The several months of aging should show them at their full maturity. "

With the white band, this cigar is the maduro version.

Love the perfecto shape of the cigar.

Construction very good. Burn very good.
No touch ups on this one.

Good afternoon smoke.

Good for the price as well. I do not want a box of these, just 5 is plenty.
Not a go-to smoke, but something different.

Excellent...I have a couple of the Presidente series that I wasn't sure of...I will have to try them.

This one's an odd ball in my collection. Assuming it's well constructed, I can usually find something about every smoke that makes it enjoyable. Not the case with these. I'm probably in the minority on this smoke/collection, which is a good thing since Gene is such a nice guy.
